Happy Weekend!!

Yeah, it's FRIDAY!!! Woo hoo...:-)
And guess what I love about fridays?
Picking up hubby from work. Yes, you heard me right.
No, not by car or any other vehicle for that matter.
When he is done for the week, and I feel like it, I wait for him here, seated on the wooden benches.
He gives me a time, well a time. He's lucky he has a patient wife who loves waiting for him.
Till he arrives, I generally watch the world go by and also be grateful for the fact as to how small Lohr is. Otherwise I do not think I would have had this opportunity to walk with the husband home.

As I wait I watch couples walking hand in hand, singles dressed up well, maybe heading to the nearest restaurant or better still, meeting that someone special, some of them walk with freshly baked bread perhaps for the night, kids like mine happy running around the marktplatz as they wait for their dad too.

The wait in spring and summer(also the beginning of autumn) is beautiful. Geraniums spill out of every window in the Altes Rathaus. People sit out in the ice cafes, some in the restaurant in front of me. Having an early dinner or a glass of beer. Hubby and I too love to pop in once in while either for a bowl of ice cream, or just grab a cone. As we walk home he listens to my ramblings of the week gone by...:-)

(Now that it's cold it's a different scenario. It get's dark by half past four. There is no more outdoor seating at the restaurants, the ice cafes are closed for the next four months. Everybody have a faster pace to their step wanting to get into the warmth of their homes. In two weeks time the town will be lit up with the christmas lights and everything will be transformed into a fairy land. Till then, what do I do as I wait? Look at the christmas delights kept out in the window shops)
P.S: Above pictures taken exactly a month ago just as the autumn leaves began to fall.

Why I ♥ to window shop

One of the things I love to do is window shop..
When in any town or village, I make it a point to visit the marktplatz just to peek into shops and sometimes spend an awful lot of time admiring the treasures separated from me by that glass window, while my family patiently waits for me.
At times it is love at first sight and I walk just right in to buy what I like(if it's affordable)...:D
In Lohr, there is one such bylane(Obere Schlacthausgasse) which has a charming shop with all kinds of home decor you can think of. I always try to cut across this lane just to take a look at what is in store for me. They do up their windows according to seasons and I can spend hours looking at the nitty gritty details.

Below is how it is when the store's open.
Stunning, isn't it?

So tell me, do you love to window shop? Are you content with just looking through the windows or do you really go out there and splurge?

Eis Eis baby..

Some of the things we take for granted back home....
like a bowl of ice cream in a cafe or ice parlor..
Well, we wait for it like crazy here.
You see, these cafes are closed for five months in a year(autumn through winter).
They close with a note pinned up on their door wishing us customers a pleasant winter.
Then, it's a long wait till spring.

And when that happens, I bring out all the pennies and coins for the little ones to have that scoop of ice on a cone.....
For a small town like Lohr, we have quite a few ice cafes..
Our favorite  is Eis Cafe Venezia.

They have unique flavors..like the one I had below..
BAGIGI which means peanuts/groundnuts.
I didn't know there was a peanut ice cream!!!

Do you have a favorite ice parlor in town?

The prettiest lane in Lohr am Main..

To me, the prettiest lane of all in Lohr am Main is......Fischergasse.
From the main street you really cannot make out the beauty of this quiet lane.
Once you enter, the colors emerging from every window of the homes lined across the street just blows you away.

Fischergasse which means fishermen's lane was in former times the fishermen's quarter. The houses here date back to the 16th century and are very very old. Hence in summer, a lot of tourists visit this particular lane to admire the old timbered buildings lined on the cobbled street with the colorful geraniums spilling out from their window boxes.

I never tire of taking a stroll down here, never!
